   hyundai's are tricky 1's.
   my advise would be to take it to
   the local repair shop, let them have
   a look so you know the exact problem,
   if not sell it off, as it is && buy
   something else, as them cars do not
   hold much value.

   Its not the battery from what you are discribing i would say it's the starter. Open up your hood, get a stick and tap the starter with it. 7 out of 10 times that would start the car. If it does work; you need to replace your starter.

   After this problem appeared, I managed to start it twice after which it refused to start. The indoor lights go dim indicating large current is being drawn, but it doesnt crank.

   so it started twice but now it doesn't. The indoor lights go dim indicating large current is being drawn, but it doesnt crank. since it doesn't crank it can't be the timing belt. How many miles has the car done so far?

   Thanks Guest11362328 and Zak for your help. I checked the car again and the solution is sometimes so simple that I feel like a fool. The battery terminal has some deposits on it. Although I cleaned the terminal while the battery was charging, I didnt give a good look on the inside part of the lug terminal. There was a thin layer of some black material which probably created a lot of contact resistance.
   Any idea how to prevent these deposits from happening? I have two accents with same make, yr, but the car which has done 30K has lot of deposits on the + terminal where as the other has no deposits watsoever.
   Sorry Zak, I think I will stick with my accent.
