Primary training in agriculture is provided as a Bachelor's degree course of three to four years duration at all the agricultural universities in the country. For graduate level courses participant can take admission directly at any state agricultural university. For this candidate must be 12th pass in science subjects or agriculture. Several universities fix a minimum aggregate of 50% marks to qualifying the entry examination, However admission is provided on the basis of merit and the performance of the candidate in the entrance exam which is conducted by the concerned university.

If the candidate have bachelor degree and want to take admission in Master Degree courses for different subjects, then the eligibility criteria will be Bachelor degree in science subjects or in agriculture. But the admission only gives on the basis of merit and the performance of entrance exam.

Announcements of the courses at various places will be available from January to onwards, while the sessions usually begin from July or September. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research arranges the entrance examination separately for graduate and postgraduate courses every year. This entrance test will be held in the month of April or start of May.
