Are exorcisms real?

    Although there is a lot of skepticism surrounding the actuality of exorcisms, there is little denying that some people believe very strongly that they are indeed real. This could be due to religious views, personal experiences with spirits and the supernatural or knowing people who have had such experiences.

   
   

   The famous film 'The Exorcist' was based on a written account of a boy who experienced strange and unexplainable things that seem to constitute a demonic possession. Beyond this there are many written and documented accounts of possessions and the exorcisms that took place to treat them. I can't say that demonic possessions exist, but the actual practice and act of exorcising these demons certainly does exist. There is no denying that exorcisms have been conducted by the Catholic Church and other religious groups and people. Whether they were treating demons, mental conditions or the like is difficult to say.
