There are a great number of ceremonies and occasions that are celebrated in Bali all around the year, and each of these is observed with great joy and color. A vibrant and lively place, Bali ensures that this spirit is fully evident in the numerous Bali Events and Festivals. The people of Bali just need a reason to celebrate, and always seem to be busy in conducting one event or the other. Each month has its fair share of festivities, and there are a number of important Bali Events and Festivals in the month of June/July, one of them being the Kite Festival in Bali. One of the most grandiose Annual Celebrations of Bali, the Kite Festival in Bali is celebrated with great gusto and enthusiasm. The Bali Travel Guide gives you complete online information about the Kite Festival in Bali.
The Bali Kite Festival is an annual event held in the month of July, in the area of Padang Galak near Sanur Beach. A sea of colorful and variedly shaped kites are seen dotting the skies, and vying for a place among the many other kites. Children and adults all crowd on the vacant paddy fields and participate in the Bali Kite Festival. The Bali Kite Festival is not only for the local Balinese crowds, and even international kite fliers and tourists come to participate in the Bali Kite Festival.
A religious event, the Bali Kite Festival is meant to be a message to the Gods for abundant harvests. The competition among the various teams is the best part about the Bali Kite Festival. The teams are made up of 10 or more kite fliers, and they fly such traditional kites as Bebean, that are fish-shaped, Janggan, which are bird-shaped, and Pecukan, that are leaf-shaped. The traditional kites flown during the Bali Kite Festival are almost 4 meters wide, and 10 meters long, and are flown competitively by teams from the villages of Denpasar. There is also a competition held for new creations, or kites of new shapes that are mostly 3-D figures of Hindu Gods. The Bali Kite Festival is accompanied by the music of a gamelan orchestra, that gives accompaniment to the competitors.
