There are many Australian banks to choose from, it is essential to open a savings account with an Australian bank as soon as possible when arriving. Each bank has different fee's and interest rates, it is a good idea to shop around to find the best account for the student. Banks in Australia are open to the public between 9:30am and 4:00pm Monday to Thursday, and open between 9:30am and 5:00pm on Fridays. Many banks are closed on Saturdays with only big branches open to the public from 9:30am to 12:00pm.

To apply for a bank account the student will require visa and passport information, identification, proof of address (tenancy agreement or utility bill) as well as their tax file number.
