    Benny Benson  was 13 year old when he designed the flag of Alaska. He was a boy in Seward when the American Legion hosted a statewide contest for the Alaska State Flag. In this contest Benny's design was selected and for this his memorial stands just off Third Avenue and Dairy Hill Lane.
