Yes you can format or reformat a hard drive yourself very easily. The main reasons someone would format a hard drive is if they are reinstalling an OS or erasing sensitive data. Before you do formatting note that the formatting of hard drive will erase all data. You can fallow the mentioned instructions for the hard drive formatting?

    • Boot up PC with windows XP installation CD in CD-ROM Drive.

    • After that a message will appear that says press any key so press any key.

    • If computer boots to CD correctly, you will see a BLUE screen which loads XP drivers.

    • Once drivers install, press Enter or F8 to enter windows XP installation.

    • Press 'D' to remove any current partitions you might have, and confirm it with 'L' key.

    • Now press 'C' for the creation of a new partition at which point it will ask you to format drive.

    • When it will say to format drive then press ‘C’ in order to create a new portion.
