The 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche has not been quite altered. This reconfigurable pickup truck is basically a crew-cab version of the Chevrolet Suburban SUV with a folding "midgate" separating the cab from the cargo bed. Lowering the midgate extends the bed to 8.2 feet from 5.3 feet. Avalanche accommodates up to 6 and comes in LS, LT, and LTZ trims and each is available with rear-wheel drive or full-time four-wheel drive that can be left engaged on dry pavement and includes a low-range gear for off-roading. The two-speed transfer case for the 4WD system is standard on the LTZ and available on the LS and LT when equipped with the optional Trailering Package. LT models can also get the transfer case when ordered with the optional Z71 Off-Road Suspension Package. The exclusive engine is a 320-horsepower 5.3-liter V8. It comes with GM's Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The engine is capable of running on E85 ethanol-mingled fuel having maximum towing capacity is 8,100 pounds. The safety features available presently include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front-side airbags, and curtain-side airbags. GM's Autoride load-leveling suspension is standard on LTZ and not available otherwise. Some other options include a navigation system and DVD entertainment. Also available are a wireless cell-phone link and rearview camera. The LTZ-exclusive standard features include Heated and cooled front seats.
