Cold and snow could not stop Horse Racing at Haydock. you can close the airports, schools and anything else but don't mess with horse racing in england. SATURDAY'S meeting at Haydock has passed a morning inspection.

Officials had called for an 8am inspection on Saturday but decided to take an early look and were delighted with the results.

The course has been covered with protective covers all week and they prevented any frost getting into the ground.

Kirkland Tellwright, clerk of the course at Haydock, said: "Racing goes ahead. Temperatures dropped to a low of -6C overnight but the covers did the job.

"No frost has got into the ground so we can race. We will leave thecovers on the course until later later, as we do not want to risk any frost getting into the ground as temperatures are still very low."

The going at Haydock is described as soft, good to soft in places on the hurdle course and soft on the chase course.

uite a few consistent each way players turn up here to contest what will hopefully remain a 'dead eight' contest to start proceedings. ZUBOVA demands to be on the short list but probably only from a win perspective with likely win and place opportunities available via the likes of TAMARIND HILL and course and distance winner RAMAMARA.

12.50 A wise chap once told me not to back Brian Meehan juveniles until they had won and then support them on their next two starts whereby ROBUST WISH qualifies on this occasion. Brian has his team in good win and place form and Eddie Ahern's mount look sure to reward investors with a good run for their collective monies. EXCEEDTHEWILDMAN is a course and distance winner that should go well again especially with Liam Keniry in the saddle, as the jockey is riding with plenty of confidence at the time of writing.

13.25 Three-year-olds have won two of the last three contests whilst the last ten gold medallists were burdened with a minimum weight of 8-12. FEMME DE FER and LOVE YOU LOUIS are the two qualifiers on this occasion whilst DECIDER should bustle up the junior raiders when push comes to shove up the home straight.

14.00 LITTLEMISSSUNSHINE is flanked in the handicap by two recent winners but that might not stop Stan Moore's four-year-old from going close to winning this event. Course and distance winners SILVER PRELUDE and AFTER THE SHOW will represent better value for money than horses which have been in better form of late. Horses more prominent in the betting might be weighted up to their ultimate best whereas SILVER PRELUDE has definitely dropped to a winning mark.

14.30 Another potential 'dead eight' event on the card which will have would be thieves coming out of shady areas up and down the length of the land. Course and distance winners SUITS ME and TRANQUIL TIDER make most appeal at the time of writing with ROCK ASCOT offered up as the each way call in the contest.

15.05 Lone six-year-old raider JAROSLAW represents the vintage which comes to the gig on a hat trick and though DROGBA could be dangerous if stripping anywhere near fit in the parade ring, Dave Simcock's Jallad gelding receives the speculative nomination.

15.35 Ian Williams has saddled four of his last eight runners to winning effect and DOUBNOV can supplement a comfortable course and distance victory last time out when Jamie Spencer was filling out his tax return inside the final furlong. Eddie Ahern takes the ride this time around and regular racegoers at 'Leafy Lingfield' have long since held the opinion that no jockey rides the course as well as amiable Eddie. FOLLOW THE FLAG could reach the frame again (four finishes 'in the three' via eight starts at Lingfield) whilst EVIDENT PRIDE is another horse to consider in the finale.
