    Hi,
Pakistan’s Aleem Dar, the International Cricket Council (ICC) Umpire of the Year, has backed the use of the controversial umpire decision review system in Test cricket.

‘I know some umpires don’t agree with this system but I think it will help reduce the chances of mistakes made on the field,’ Aleem told reporters at a function held in his honour in Karachi.

The Indian cricket board has refused to enforce the referral’s system in its ongoing Test series with Sri Lanka while South Africa have also turned it down for their home series against England.

The dissenting boards want the ICC to foot the costs of technology needed to implement the system.

Following a trial in four-Test series, the ICC approved the review system on a permanent basis in June.

Under the system, players are allowed to challenge close umpiring calls, a side can twice challenge an umpire’s decision which is referred to the third umpire for adjudication.

Opinions have been mixed among players, television commentators and fans.

There were concerns the authority of the umpires would be undermined, although the ICC said the positives far outweighed the negatives with more correct decisions being made.

Aleem said that he supported the use of any technology that made the life of umpires easier.

‘It is a tough job out there nowadays and the review system is helpful for the umpires if used properly,’ he stated.
