Electric Vehicle By 2011 - At the North American Auto Show, Ford announced their fairly aggressive plan to introduce a whole line of electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid vehicles over the next four years. Part of that plan involves collaborating with the Canadian auto parts manufacturer, Magna International, to help introduce a small, 100% electric car in North America by 2011. They also plan on having a pure electric commercial van available by 2010.

The small lithium-ion powered car should have a range of up to 100 miles per charge, and run entirely on battery power. It’ll be based on the Ford Fusion, and most likely be a limited run vehicle, with between 5,000 and 10,000 units produced. The car will be marketed only in urban areas because of the infrastructure needed to make it workable. Ford needs to work on convincing local governments to set up EV charging stations in those urban areas, that’s key to their plan.

it is also being said that the 'trend' that is being witnessed currently, is pointing towards the depletion of CNG resources and eventually a cut down in petrol cars and an increase in electric ones. this will be an interesting transition.
