   The ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 started featuring 16 teams. There were some new teams that were playing the mega event for the first time like Ireland, Bermuda and Scotland participating in the World Cup Cricket for the very first time. The sixteen playing teams were divided into four groups with four teams in each group. Before the start, it seemed very much inevitable that the top 8 teams that were thought to be Australia, England, South Africa, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, New Zealand and hosts West Indies would be playing the second round named as "Super Eight". However, this proved to be wrong big time when the two biggest cricket playing nations Pakistan and India got eliminated from the world cup 2007 in the very first round. The Pakistani team led by Inzamam-ul-Haq lost their second consecutive match against Ireland after losing the first match to West Indies, thus closing their gateways to the second round. On the other hand the Indian team lost two consecutive matches by losing to Bangladesh and then to Sri Lanka which proved to be curtains for them in the world cup 2007 campaign. This was the biggest surprise of the year 2007, considering India and Pakistan being winners of world cup titles in 1983 and 1992 respectively and also runners up on two different occasions, yet knocked out in the very first round of the mega event.
