Family Tree Maker 2008 platinum edition is incompatible with windows 7. It does not work properly on Windows 7 operating system. You need to install Family Tree Maker 2010 or later. So I suggest you to buy latest software of Family Tree Maker for your system.

Family Tree Maker (FTM) is the best selling genealogy software in the United States.  As, FTM with other genealogy software permits the investigators  to save data they collected during research for creating charts, reports, and books containing related information. Kenneth Hess of Banner Blue Software was the developer of Family Tree Maker. In 1995, Brøderbund  purchased the software.  It remained under the ownership of many companies such as The Learning Company, Mattel, and others before coming to its present owner.

A modified Family Tree Maker 2008 with many new features was released on August 14, 2007.  The 2009 version of the program was launched by correcting some of the errors and omissions of its previous version. It was introduced with couple of new features. According to Family Tree Maker, 2010 version was presented with new design and with more powerful features, packed with quicker load times and faster navigation.

The company released its first version for the Mac in 1997, but it was discontinued because of low market demand. A new version of Family Tree Maker for Macintosh (Mac) was finally released after 10 years of its first release on November 4, 2010.
