Please tell me about the job responsibilities of a hostess. One of my very good friends has asked me about it but I don’t know the exact details so please inform me.

     "The basic responsibility of a hostess is to manage and organize the operations within a dining room of a bistro. The post of a hostess is of great importance in any restaurant but usually people neglected it due to the responsibilities performed by other staff members of the restaurant. Good bistros identify the significance of the occupation and reward it highly as a basic post in the restaurant.  A responsible hostess assures that the food and beverages served in a restaurant are provided in the most welcoming way.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Making sure that all plates and serving dishes are completely clean, are free of stains or spots and are complete.

    • To assure that the entrance area is fully hygienic free from debris and welcoming.

    • Examine call bookings and answering messages to ensure that all reservations are provided in time.

    • Communicate with the manager to become knowledgeable about any private get-togethers to be held at the restaurant.

    • Examine the kitchen to make sure that everything is on its place.

    • Take full care for the dining room, bathrooms, entrance, to assure that cleanliness is maintained in all areas.

    • Greeting customers calmly and directing them to their respective tables, pulling seats for them and ensuring that they are feeling relax and happy.

    • Take special care that the clients are seated and well served.

    • Saying goodbye to guests and enquiring from them about the quality of services provided at the restaurant. This also involves checking with the guests to record any problem experienced.

    • In some establishments the hostess acts as the cashier, ensuring that all cash is accounted for.

    • A passion for working with guests as well as other staff.

    • High level of personal hygiene.

    • Able to work under pressure.

    • Excellent organizational and management skills.
