It is important to understand that dogs bark for various reasons. In general, dogs will most commonly bark for warning/alert, anxiety, playfulness or excitement, attention-seeking and boredom and while responding to other dogs. Once you find out the cause of your dog's too much barking, you can begin to control the behavior. The best way to stop too much barking in the first place is to try and remove any potential sources causing the behavior. You also want to be certain not to unintentionally encourage the barking. Try to avoid leaving a lonely dog alone for long hours if possible. Do not ever console, pet, hug or feed your dog while barking for attention or out of anxiety as it would be encouraging the behavior. At times shouting at your dog to stop barking does not help and may actually cause more barking. Avoid punishments like shock collars as they are not only painful and unkind but dogs will learn to test them and eventually work around them. Try to get her attention with a clap or whistle till the god is quiet. If nothing works for you it is good to consult a proper dog trainer.
