   You can do that by adding it to the Open Directory. Go to http://www.dmoz.org, find the category your site should be listed in, and click the “Add URL” link at the top of the page. Do read their submission guidelines first at http://dmoz.org/add.html. Alexa.com will pick your website only if it’s approved by DMOZ.

   Very rightly guided by SEO expert, adding your website to DMOZ will help you improving your top ranking under categories, but let me tell you that it’s not easy. It is not like that you submit your website to DMOZ and it is approved and you got top ranking in Alexa, instead it takes time, may be years. In order to assure that your website gets noticed by the DMOZ editors, make sure that your submission is attractive, i.e. its description and title etc, plus it is submitted under most appropriate category.
   
   If you have read their guidelines properly and have added your site there according to guidelines, I am sure the approval time will shrink to months from years. By the way there are many good directories like Google directory that take dump from DMOZ, so you get benefit of it! And once your listing is approved in Alexa, not only the Alexa category ranking will improve but also search engine trust. You will see a fairly good change in things after your site is listed in DMOZ.
