"The treatment priority depends upon numerous features which based upon how much the cancer has spread in a body, typical feature of the cancer, and overall fitness of the patient.

    Surgery:

The major process of breast cancer treatment is surgery, especially so when the tumor is diagnosed.

There are many ways of surgery.

    • Breast conserving surgery: It is an operation to take out the cancer but not the breast is called breast-sparing surgery.

    • Lumpectomy: In lumpectomy, the surgeon abolishes the breast cancer and few normal tissues around tumor.

    • Segmental mastectomy: In segmental mastectomy, the doctor wipes out the cancerous tissues and a larger area of normal breast tissue around cancer. Sometimes, few of the lining over the chest muscles and below the tumor are removed as well. Some lymph nodes under the arm may also be discarded.

    • Total mastectomy: In total mastectomy, the doctor eliminates the complete breast. Some lymph nodes under the arm may also be discarded.

    • Radical mastectomy: In this surgery the physician discarded the whole breast, both chest muscles, all of the lymph nodes under the arm, and also some excessive fat and skin. For many years, this operation was known to be the number one treatment for women with breast cancer, but it has never been used till today. In exceptional incidents, radical mastectomy may be suggested if the cancer has spread to the chest muscles.

    • Axillary Lymph node dissection: Removing some or all of the lymph nodes in the arm pit. Usually 10 to 20 lymph nodes in the arm pit are removed.

Other treatment possibilities include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, and immune therapy."
