    Although it is not completely clear thanks in large part to multiple reports as well as the level of control in Venezuelan media it is clear that Hugo Chavez, the President of Venezuela had died of complications as they relate to cancer. Such complications could be a heart attack, however it is completely clear that he did in fact succumb following a long and strenuous battle with cancer travelling to Cuba for at least two surgical procedures.

   
   

   Chavez has a completely polarizing reputation as many socialist former military leaders who exercise the level of control he did often due. To his people Chavez was a beloved leader who was a champion of the poor, giving money and the benefit of 17 cent U.S. oil prices. Hundred of thousands of his people flocked to Caracas for his funeral.

   
   

   To the West and his detractors, Chavez will be remembered as a man who benefitted financially from a nation's oil boom and who eliminated an educated middle class and stifled a peoples' freedom to free media.
