    Just as his mother, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi got assassinated on May 21, 1991, in a village approximately 30 miles from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, where he was assassinated while campaigning for the Sriperumbudur Lok Sabha Congress candidate.
