A common type of burial for Vikings was ship burial in which a ship or boat was used to contain the dead and the grave goods. The value goods buried with the person would depend on the social group the Viking would be a part of. For a thrall, a term for a servant, would be buried in the ground. For a free man or woman they would be buried with certain belongings such as jewelry or tools.
