Ive had my tragus pierced for 2 years now and ever since its been very infected. I have a bump on the outside beside the hoop, and the inside beside my hoop. Ive tried cleaning it with sea salt, peroxide, mild contact solution, and warm water. Nothing works. Ive also had different kinds of earings in it. But the infection never cleared up. With the hoop I have in now, I cant take it out on my own, I have to go the piercer and get him to take it out. But im too scared to as Im sure it will really hurt. What do I do?

Hi, My tragus formed a lump shortly after i got it done too.
I got it done couple of months ago.Mine was done with straight bar, but i would advise you to keep whatever bar you have in now and do not change it. I went to a local piercing shop about my lump and got told that it could be a keloid scar. He gave me some advice and you should do this too as it has been a few weeks from then now and it is healing up very well and the lump is now hardly noticeable:
    - Clean piercing 2 or 3 times a day with salt water, made up of a cup of boiling water and SEA salt. It might sting a bit when you first put it to your ear but it stop after a few seconds.
    - Also, after cleaning with the salt water and also at any other time of the day, use Savlon antiseptic spray, it comes out as a yellowish powder but it veryyy good :)

Hope this helps, it helped mine alot.

would you rather have pain, or the infection?
in my opinion go to the piercer, they cant always fix an infection. if they cant go to a doctor. or you'll be stuck with the infection.

The bump you're experiencing is known as a keloid - a hypertrophic scar that forms a bubble on the perimeter of the piercing. The best way to treat keloids is through regular cleanings; my piercer is of 2 years experience and suggests H2Ocean. The lysozyme in the solution will help to break down lymph secretions (crusties), as well as warding off any gram positive bacteria responsible for your flare ups. Also, the saline component will function to reduce the swelling and serve to keep the area clean. Hope my info helps you out! :)

Hello, I had to same problem, I had a HUGE bump in the inside of my ear on the top of the hoop, and there was one starting to form on the outside as well, I looked this up and saw the above answer, I couldn't find Savlon Antiseptic spray ANYWHERE, (Walmart, CVS, Walgreens) I use to work at CVS as a Pharmacy Tech, and I had the Pharmacist look up the spray, they had never heard of it and the computer wouldn't find the product. So I kind of gave up on it. I started using peroxide on it 2-3 times a day and nothing else, and it cleared it completely up in only 5 days, and the bump is no longer visible on either side, and has no infection. I thought that this was much easier than anything else and wanted to share my home aid. Hope it works for you other guys out there :)

mines gone infected so today i went to the doctors and got some antibiotics, this as well as salt water cleaning should kill the infection in about 10 days.
