How employees get salary hikes in Pakistan employers tips.  Jobs in pakistan and the salaries people get depends on many different factors. The IT job market in pakistan is not efficient, which means employees and employers can get away with just about anything. Normally supply and demand determines the direction of the labor market and in Pakistan in certain markets like Islamabad an unrealistic salary graph has been created.

If you scan the IT jobs on different sites in Pakistan you will see the data that is as wide as the corrupted politician’s bank account. Salaries are ranging from 15k to 80k and the required experience is not substantially different.  The fastest way to get a salary increase is to work with few of the well established companies and within a year or two your starting salary will be doubled.  Furthermore when a new company enters the market, they tend to pick employees from companies who have a good brand in the market. These new companies will offer in some cases 100% markup to pooch employees.

Salary increase in Islamabad or some other parts of Pakistan compared to a western country clearly shows the shift in labor market. It won’t be long before people from the west start to move towards the developing countries. India is already seeing a large influx of talent and as and when the security situation improves; Pakistan will see a similar trend.  For example if you take an employee’s starting salary in Islamabad and compare the two years increase; it is hard to understand how in most cases it has doubled; Yet employees still expect an increase at the same level.  When the employer tries to put an end to unrealistic pay hikes; employee simply finds another company.  

Some companies hire employees and keep them at a pay they can afford; they understand the exact output from the employee and simply do not care when employee leaves. A new recruit is hired way in advance to make sure they are not left on a cliffhanger.  

To keep this post short, here are some tips for employers:

Make sure you are fair to your employees and pay them accordingly
Make sure you have ample resources in all critical departments
Never be held hostage to unrealistic demands from employees (in most cases these demands will arise when you have more urgent matters at hand)
