How have the different sects of the Islamic religion impacted the region?

   First of all I would like to know what you mean when you say "region"? Is it Subcontinent, Middle East or some other region?
   Sects have affected the Islam, in many different ways, unity is the biggest asset and if you are divided you don't have the power to influence. For example in Pakistan there are about 300 registered religious parties and 66 of them are in mainstream politics and run in elections. Among these 66 many joined the MMA (The united action front of Islamic parties) I covered many of their events and they would eat together, drink together chat and do everything together, but when it comes to faith, one of them declares everyone else in the room Kafir. All of those parties will have separate prayers, so in one room or building you will find maybe thirty separate namaz prayers, which is not right, Islam came to bring unity, that is what Namaz prayer is joint in Jama'at.
