Lahore Airport, also known as Allama Iqbal International Airport is a self sufficient international airport with innumerable flight operation facilities. Located at a distance of only 15 KM from the city proper, Lahore International Airport witnesses a huge volume of regular flight movement. Some of the airlines that run domestic and international flights to and from Lahore Airport are Pakistan International Airport, Shaheen Air International, Airblue, Emirates Airlines, Indian Airlines, Etihad Airways, Kuwait Airways, Malaysia Airlines, Mahan Air and many more. A considerable number of cargo carriers like Star Air, TCS Couriers, DHL Cargo, Askari Aviation, ACT and Royal Airlines Cargo operate flights from the Lahore Airport. Modern and well maintained, Lahore Airport is one of the best international airports in South Asia. Officially known as Allama Iqbal International Airport, the airport in Lahore has 3 separate terminals and 2 runways. In 2003, "Allama Iqbal International Airport" was inaugrated and all flights were switched to the new airport and the old airport was passed onto the military. However, during the Hajj period, the old airport is used as a Hajj Terminal by the national carrier, PIA. In 2001 the number of people travelling from Lahore Airport are 2.6 million, which is now increased to about 13.58 million passengers. Allama Iqbal International Airport was ranked the world's leading airport by Singapore Airlines in service performance in 2006.
