Sarah, it not a big issue, most of the runners face that problem while jogging, running and walk. Dogs actually sense human fear by their fast movement. Due to human fast movement, they catch dogs’ attention.
By following our tips you can handle dogs or avoid dog bites on the run.
1) Don’t stare or make any eye contact with it. It is necessary because when you are continuously starring dog, it feels it as threat.
2) Another best tip is that stop running or you can also avoid that situation by walking in opposite direction and don’t turn back or look back because dogs suppose it as someone is invading its territory.
3) If dog start coming towards you, don’t yell or make any sudden movement. Stand firm, stay quit, relax and say "Go home or you can” "Sit" or you can say anything but don’t shout.
4) If dog jumps over you, then push it softely with your forearms.
5) If you still feel fear, then complain it to your local animal control.
