I inherited my mother's beautiful Singer 201 and always believed that it sewed perfectly until I purchased an old beat up 201 at a garage sale that didn't work. After a thorough once over and motor brush replacement, it sews very, very nicely. Much better than my mother's machine. It zips right over thick seams while my mother's machine makes an audible noise and vibration under the needle plate on the same seam. I've noticed that mom's machine has some slop in the feed dogs that doesn't exist in the garage-sale twin. Mom's machine also needs more pedal to get it started while the ugly twin can start very slowly. I wonder if anyone can point me to a service manual for our family treasure? Thanks ,Mike
