"Japanese names are normally written using kanji characters, not katakana.

    • The Japanese compose foreign phrases phonetically, so it is not all the time possible to state how a name should be in writing in Japanese without any additional information. Like, the last two letters of Andrea can be spoke like ier in the phrase barrier, or like ayer in the phrase layer.

    • Traditionally, some names have uncommon pronunciations in Japanese. Like, the name Phoenix is often spoke “fen-ix” rather than of the more exact “fee-nix”.

    • The use of an emphasized U to comprise the sound of the letter “V” appears to be a latest modification in Japanese writing. Ancient sources are inclined to use a B sound rather than, so for example Kevin is often spoke kebin other than kevin."
