I'm from MN and am being charged about 3,000.00 for an overpayment when I was on public assistance. The Dept of Economic Assitance says that things such as employment date and unemployment benefits were never provided to them which resulted in an over payment of benefits. I did submit all the information they say they did not receive, and I have proof of that. I even received a letter from a worker at the Dept of Economic Assistance ,that does confirm that this was an agency error . She also adds that even though this was not my fault, the law says I have to pay back the amount that was given to me...even though I had no way of knowing that I was exceeding my benefit amount. I am wondering isn't there some kind of statue or loop hole that protects me from repaying a debt that was made from someone elses error ?? It seems unfair to be expected to pay this when this is an agency error.I had no way of knowing that this overpayment was occuring and couln't even prevent or stop it. Thank you so much !!
