While searching over the web for different diseases and infections, I have often come across with terms like yeast infections and fungal infections. I do not happen to be a doctor; neither have any relation with the field of medical. Nevertheless, I have gotten into the habit of collecting information about diseases since my father died of liver cirrhoses. Hence I would like to know that whether the yeast infection is a type of fungal infection or otherwise?

If we look at the very basic definitions, yeast is a fungus scientifically referred to as Candida. Yeast is present usually on ordinary human skin and in areas where moisture is present, such as the mouth and other moist body parts. Now if for example you are having athlete's foot or a yeast infection, you can blame a fungus for this. Hence we can say that yeast infection is a fungal infection which can be caused by any Candida species like Candida Albicans. Some types of yeast infections are external, appear in anybody and are easy to cure. On the other hand some could be life-threatening and usually appear in AIDS, cancer and transplant patients.
