     Monotremes are the family of animals that lay eggs and give milk - egg laying mamals. This family includes the platypus as well as the Echidna or spiny anteaters.

    The Monotreme is a mammal that lay eggs. They located in Australia and New Guinea. The mother carries the egg for period of time to allow the egg to absorb certain nutrients. There are four species of the Monotreme.
