I am in the sixth month of pregnancy and this is my second child. From the last few days I am having some dizzy feelings with minor headaches which are obvious signs of high blood pressure. I would like to know if hypertension during pregnancy is normal or requires some extra care.

This must be understood that hypertension during the pregnancy can prove to be risky for the mother as well as for the baby. Despite the fact that the occurrence of eclampsia is declining, hypertension in pregnancy may still result in a number of maternal deaths, as well as miscarriages, pre-mature deliveries, and babies small for date as a result of problems related to placenta. Besides, the Mothers could be suffering with chronic hypertension for the rest of their lives along with prolonged cardiovascular risk. Hence it is advised not to take this matter lightly and see the doctor at your earliest possible.
