The Solara was designed from the outset as a convertible with the MIG-welded members and extra-thick sheetmetal, and the latest version of Solara is much stiffer than the last-generation Solara drop-top.

The ride is compliant, and the four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes delivers true performance with confidence. Acceleration from the standard 225-horse, 3.3-liter V-6 and five-speed automatic transmission is much more than ample. The Solara isn't as tough as its European competitors, but still it is steady. And in a market that means build quality, reliability, and smooth, quiet operation, also the Solara Convertible goes down easy.

The electric top of vehicle lowers seamlessly; just flip down two header latches and push the dash-mounted button. The Goggle-Eyed, fish-like Camry Solara coupe and convertible will not be replaced. Instead, Toyota's attempt to win over middle-of-the-road "lifestyle" buyers will then be based around a four door, two-box crossover known as the 2005 FT-SX Detroit concept.

The concept introduced Toyota's less than elegant "t-face," which appears as grill of the 2007 Camry sedan and also Yaris sedan and hatchback. It is designed as a car for the empty-nesters and middle-aged suburbanites who travel and dine out frequently, and directly targets ford edge, which is its first competitor in the personal-crossover category.

New Solaras normally follow Camry after two years, so if a model is launched in the year 2008, it will then be launched as 2009 model.
