Manuel 'Manny' Aristides Ramírez Onelcida was born on 30 May 1972, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He is a retired Dominican-American professional baseball outfielder. A nine-time Silver Slugger, and one of 25 players to have hit over 500 career home runs, he was recognized for his strong offensive abilities. Ramirez's 21 career grand slams are the second-most all-time, behind Lou Gehrig's 23. His 28 career post-season home runs are the most by any player in major league baseball (MLB) history. Ramirez was a fixture in the All-Star Game, with 12 appearances over the span of his career.

Ramirez was allegedly among a group of 104 major league players who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs during 2003. In 2009, Ramirez was suspended 50 games for violating Major League Baseball's Performance Enhancing Drug policy by taking human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a women's fertility drug typically used by steroid users to restart their body's natural testosterone production as they come off a steroid cycle.

Ramirez retired from baseball on April 8, 2011, rather than participate in MLB's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

More over even though Manny Ramirez was able to hit only .261 with one home run and two RBIs in 24 games for the White Sox at the end of last season, manager Ozzie Guillen said he didn't "have any complaints or regrets (having) him with the ballclub."

Ramirez retired Friday from the Rays, who were playing the Sox, amid drug testing allegations.

"Manny, as a friend, as his former manager, he was great for the game, he has done a lot of great things for baseball," Guillen said. "He was one of the best hitters to play the game. He played good for us last year. I wish he could have played better. He was great in the clubhouse."

Ramirez was in Chicago long enough to make $1.1 million and still is collecting on more than $3 million in deferred payments from the Sox.

So it might be the right time to be departed from the field because there are things beyond the limits of field as well so now it is about time to focus on other things as well.
