   Hi There,
   The bone will burn and let me tell you it's not a pleasant smell. You get a feel for how it may have been in the death camps when you smell burning bone.
   
   And you are correct that you wont be able to solder to leaf. Its way too this.
   I would suggest trying to make the piece with fine silver or very soft 0.8mm sheet which you should be able to manipulate around the bone with a burnisher, not unlike the way that you might bezel set a stone.
   If you make the piece oversize with all fittings in place then you should be able to burnish it down to shape. Alternatively you may be able to crimp it into place.
   Sounds like you're heading down the right path already.
