Miracle fruit - Has anyone else heard about this? It's a rare berry that you eat, and it alters your taste buds temporarily. For about an hour, anything sour tastes incredibly sweet.

there's this new trend called ‘flavor tripping’. its the newest fad in the foodie world. bending your flavor sense by eating a single berry of Miracle Fruit.

The Miracle Fruit, a tiny red berry native to West Africa, contains a molecule called miraculin that, according to Wikipedia, “binds to the tongue’s taste buds, causing sour foods to taste sweet.” In other words, it makes grapefruit taste like a sweet orange, lemons taste like candy and Guiness tastes like chocolate cake. The “trip” lasts about 45 minutes and quickly becomes a rampage through the cupboards to find the weirdest thing to stick in your mouth. Numerous articles exist that documenting this amazing fruit and the parties that have sprung up around them.

and the fascinating thing is that asia is where they are most easily available. why people aren't taking advantage of this amazing fruit here is beyond me.
