A mother of a paralyzed woman was charged with attempted murder after nursing her for 17 long years. Kay Gilderdale, who is 54, has been a devoted mother and has nursed her daughter Lynn, 31 for the last 17 years. Lynn has been suffering from a condition that has been debilitating her entire system. Lynn had earlier suffered from tuberculosis immunization.

Lynn used to enjoy playing piano, was a champion in ballad and swimming. However, over the years she lost her ability to use her limbs, speak and even eat. Her mother was charged of attempted murder by the Crown Prosecution Services and if convicted could serve a lifetime in prison. This trial is likely to spark debates about “mercy killing”.

Lynn died of morphine over doze on 4 December, 2008. Her mother has been the immediate suspect. However, she was supported by her family and has confirmed Mrs. Gilderdale’s unfaltering devotion and care.

However, another issue that is likely to raise a fresh round of arguments about the inconsistent decisions taken by the law. Many families of those who are chronically ill are said to take them in foreign countries to die.
