My camera won't start.

About 50% of the time when I go to turn on my camera the on light goes on, and the screen starts, but only for a second before it turns off again. It doesn't seem to matter what kind of battery I use and how charged they are. The rest of the time my camera works fine.
I don't believe this is a lens problem because the lens doesn't even begin to open, and I don't get as far as the start up screen, so i haven't seen any lens error signs.

Things to check first for a camera that won't turn on are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Troubleshooting tips on other things that need to be checked may be seen here. These tips won't work for every case, but they're worth a try.

By the way, for your particular problem, would recommend first focusing on cleaning the camera's battery contact point.
