Question:

My son is g*y and seeing a way older guy?

I recently found out my 16 year old son is g*y. Although it's not something I'm particularly happy about, I understand that you can't change someone's sexuality, it is what it is, and even if I'm not over the moon about it, I still love him and accept him for being who he is. I've made it quite clear I'd rather him be g*y and happy than pretend to be straight and be unhappy.

But, what I do have a problem with is that I've also found out through my daughter that he has been seeing a MUCH older man - I think he's in his early 40's. I worry that this man is taking advantage of my son, but when I try to confront my son about it he turns it around to makes it out like I have a problem with his sexuality, rather than the fact he's seeing a guy way too old for him. My daughter says he's been seeing him for a few months, which means since my son was 15.

I'm at a loss what to do about it. I've tried talking to my son, but he gets too defensive, and I don't know who this man is - my daughter says she's seen him, but she doesn't know where he lives or anything.

Confront your son. tell him that you love him and that you are comfortable with his sexual orientation, but that you have heard rumors that he is seeing an older man. Tell him that you are worried for his safety and you would prefer that he would see guys closer to his age. Try to keep the conversation serious and don't lose your temper.

I am g*y and i wouldn't feel angry if my parents set rules for dating. (unless they were unreasonable)
Tell him firmly that he cannot see an older man, but he can date someone else his age.
Explain to him why you are prohibiting him from seeing this man.
