Pia Toscano is one of the best contestant in American Idol. A friend told me last night the she has got eliminated from the show on 7th April 2011 program. I was shocked by this news and want to confirm this news. Is this news true? Do you know something about this?

Toscano was born in 1988 and grew up in Howard Beach, New York. She is of Italian descent. She began performing in talent shows when she was four, and by the time she was two, had performed in a local church production of "Jesus Christ Superstar". Toscano was the official National Anthem singer at her middle school, P.S./M.S. 207, and performed at every event including graduation. She attended LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts in New York City and graduated in 2006. Fellow Idol contestant Karen Rodriguez also attended this school.

She performed the National Anthem and "God Bless America" for the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Mets’ minor league team, several times a year for three years. Additionally, Toscano was the winner of the New York Mets annual "Anthem Search" competition in 2008 and was selected to sing the national anthem at a July 2008 game. Toscano has also opened for the Barenaked Ladies.

Prior to Idol, Toscano worked as a make-up artist and as a wedding singer in a band called "Current Affair". She also performed with Josh Groban at Madison Square Garden on the chorus of You Raise Me Up. She cites her musical influences as Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Etta James, and Luther Vandross.

No one saw this coming. American Idol sent home Pia Toscano on Thursday night, widely viewed as one of the best singers left in this year's competition, and it sent the judges fuming.

"I have no idea what just happened here," said judge Jennifer Lopez. "I'm shocked, I'm angry, I don't even know what to say."

Fellow judge Randy Jackson agreed with Lopez, and added, "I'm never really mad on this show, but this makes me mad."

Toscano, 22, is from Queens, New York City, and the fact she was sent home drew boos from the audience, Reuters reported. There are eight competitors remaining.

The elimination also led to widespread social media chatter, with many saying they were shocked, and some saying they won't watch Idol anymore altogether. Even Snooki weighed in with a tweet, "Pia should have won the whole thing! I'm not watchin Idol anymore. I'm with JLO on this one..."

Toscano has been eliminated from American Idol.

AI is no longer a talent competition, but rather a popularity one. Is it odd that only female contestants have been eliminated so far? Not when you realize the voting audience is primarily pre-pubescent and adolescent girls it isn't. So-called "pretty" boys with minimal talent have been winning the past few years. It's time to really give the show a make-over. Maybe "Dancing with the Stars" has the right idea: counter the "popularity" vote with an evaluative one. The final five in AI should have been Jacob, Pia, James, Lauren and Haley--they are the true talents.

Pia really? Whats a matter girls...too pretty for ya...jealous? I give up!! Its not fun to watch knowing that the most talented contestant can receive the lowest number of votes. Not a talent show anymore. Im done watching.

Elimination just gives a SMART Manager more time to get her on a recording contract.  She has EVERYTHING a REAL star needs. She will go way up on the appreciation category for people who really love the style she brings to each song.  I love her and I wish her every success.  I cant wait to buy her first CD.  Believe Pia ! Cause you have got it all. A FAN

I see (hopefully) a star named PIA - beautiful voice, beautiful person - wonderfully wide range of vocal talent who can sing with the very best of them - putting out great music, CD's, and class entertainment.  Did America get it wrong?  You bet - for all the reasons so many have said already.  Voting needs to be aligned more with DWTS to control the people who crank out the votes for two hours based on who's cutest and not who has the talent and the commercial possibilities.

Pia - now that's a voice to reckon with!

Haley should of been eliminated from the competition last night.  She has had a hard time finding herself.  She is to me one of the worse performers of the women.  Pia has been flawless through out the competition.  Haley would of been my choice to eliminate from the women.  Paul would of been my choice to eliminate from the men's side.
