I have a question regarding the BISP, abbreviated for the Benazir Income Support Program. What I know about this program is that it was an idea by Pakistani former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and I have heard that it has proved to be a helping hand for the people affected by poverty. However, I would like to know about the procedure of Score card data collection and verification of poverty effected people?

The Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) was launched by the Government of Pakistan in February 2009, as the main social safety net program to cushion the negative effects of the food crisis and inflation on the poor. The enrolled families are paid cash assistance of Rs.1000 per month at their doorsteps. A monthly payment of Rs.1000/ per family would enhance the income of a family earning Rs.5000 by 20%. The Data collection is usually carried out by teams of Enumerators and Supervisors. With each data collection team there is a Supervisor comprised of ten Enumerators and a Forward Campaigner. The Forward Campaigner’s with the assistance of local activists visits a village/locality one to two days ahead of the scheduled data collection date, and raises awareness regarding the data collection process. The purpose being to ensure that the communities: a) Understand the importance of the PSC data collection process, b) Are willing to participate in the survey, c) Are motivated to provide accurate and reliable information, and d) Keep the required information in access on the data collection date.
