Put two pictures together side by side how to steps

Put two pictures together side by side how to steps? Can someone please help. What i want is a step by step guide for putting two pictures together, next to each other.  

Think of me as the person who comes from the 1880, this is the first time i am using computer.  i have these two pictures, one is for my wife and the other is for our cottage. I would like to put these two pictures together so it shows my wife standing next to the cottage.  

I am not sure, if this is possible but i thought i would ask for help.

If anyone here who knows how to use computer, please come forward and help me out.
