It is unbelievable that Stihl manages to maintain it's reputation when the company ACTIVELY tries to prevent any of their customers repairing their chainsaws. They want ALL service done by their (often incompetant) overpriced "authorized service dealers" at rates that are comparable to what a Mercedes Benz dealer charges. (Don't think so? How do you know how much time the lackey "technician" (read that as "hack mechanic") ACTUALLY spent in 'shop time' fixing your saw?  Huh?  How do you know? Answer:  YOU DON'T !

I have FINALLY managed to obtain the original Stihl repair manual for this saw (92 pages) so I can do the work myself !  On the first page of the manual it states, and I quote, :

"Service manuals and technical information bulletins describing engineering changes are intended EXCLUSIVELY (my emphasis) for the use of Stihl servicing dealers and staff and MUST NOT BE PASSED ON TO THIRD PARTIES (again, my emphasis added)."

In addition I also have acquired the complete "Spare Parts List" which is a SEPARATE publication. It is OBVIOUSLY necessary that you have a copy if you intend to do your own service.

Stihl ALSO goes out of their way to bring legal action agains people who disseminate this information on the internet and thereby prevent their dealers from ripping off the public.

What a GREAT business attitude these guys have.  Are you REALLY sure you want to buy a Stihl ?
