    Hi,
    Shoaling upwards is generally related to a carbonate succession, whereas coarsening upward is typically used when the succession is a clastics (sandstone-siltstone) succession. Carbonate shoaling upwards successions is typical of a prograding carbonate shoreline. Clastic coarsening upwards successions are typical of a prograding delta or shoreline
