I have given an assignment in which I have to describe different types of diseases and their treatments. I am done with most of them and just a few more to go. Nevertheless, I would be more than grateful if someone could tell me about the treatment of brain tumor.

When it comes to treatment of brain tumor, it can prove to be something quite frightening and confusing. This is because when someone gets diagnosed for a brain tumor, it goes down as a big discomfort not only for the patient but the whole family. Hence the treatment for brain tumors depends upon a number of factors like type, location and size of the tumor as well as the patient's age and general health. There are normally 3 types of treatments for brain tumors which include:

    Surgery

This operation is called a craniotomy in which a neurosurgeon makes an opening in the skull to remove the brain tumor without damaging vital brain tissue.

    Radiation Therapy

This is also called radiotherapy and used when surgery is not possible. It utilizes high-powered rays to destroy cancer cells that cannot be removed with surgery and at the same time stop them from growing.

    Chemotherapy

This involves use of drugs to kill cancer cells by giving the drugs orally or by injection into a blood vessel, muscle or the cerebrospinal fluid in a series of cycles.
