I have seen patients who are known to have diabetes. However, I have noticed that the symptoms that they show are quite different in each case. For this reason, I would like someone to tell me in brief if there are any types of diabetes and if they have symptoms different from each other.

Generally speaking, there are two main types of diabetes. They are commonly known as Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. The Type 1 diabetes is often called insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus or IIDM as it results from the body's failure to produce insulin, and often requires the patient to inject insulin. On the other hand, the Type 2 diabetes is a non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, or NIDDM. This is a condition that occurs due to insulin resistance in which the body cells fail to use insulin properly and is often coupled with an absolute insulin deficiency.

The symptoms of Type 1 diabetes include:

    • Increased thirst and frequent urination

    •
    • Extreme hunger

    •
    • Weight loss

    •
    • Fatigue

    •
    • Blurred vision or weak eyesight

The symptoms of Type2 diabetes include:

    • Blurred vision

    •
    • Erectile dysfunction

    •
    • Pain or numbness in the feet or hands

    •
    • Infections taking more than normal to heal
