Cholera is not likely to be transmitted directly from one person to another as casual contact with a person who has cholera is not a major risk for becoming ill. In order to become ill with Cholera millions of bacteria are required, which cannot be transmitted while having casual contact for sure. But yes, a close contact for longer period can cause the illness. If you’re taking care of a person with Cholera, you must make sure not to use their belongings, like eating in same plate, drinking together etc.

The researchers found that human colonization creates a hyperinfectious bacterial state that is maintained after dissemination and that may contribute to epidemic spread of the disease.
