"Risk factors for lung cancer include:

    • Smoking. Smoking is undoubtedly considered to be the strongest risk factor for lung cancer. The chances of lung cancer grow high with the number of cigarettes you smoke every day and the number of years you have smoked.

    • Exposure to indirect smoke. If you don't smoke, your risk of lung cancer becomes high if you're exposed to indirect smoke.

    • Inhaling the radon gas. Radon is generated by the environmental breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water that at the result dissolves in the air in which you breathe. Hazardous amount of radon can aggregate in any building and houses. Radon testing can be checked whether the radon gas levels are safe or not.

    • Direct interaction to asbestos and other chemicals. Exposure at workplaces to asbestos and other substances is another biggest factor to cause cancer like arsenic, chromium, nickel and tar. They can also strengthen the risk of developing lung cancer, especially if you're a smoker.

    • Family history of lung cancer. People with a parent, sibling or other first-degree relative with lung cancer have an increased risk of the disease.

    • Extensive intake of alcohol. Drinking more than a balanced amount of alcohol may increase your risk of lung cancer.

    • Certain lung diseases. People with certain lung diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, may have an increased risk of lung cancer."
