The best term to define blood pressure is Hypertension. The readings of blood pressure are measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg). For example it is described as 120/80.

The top number is the systolic pressure, the pressure is created when your heart beats. It is considered high if it is consistently over 140.

On the other hand the bottom number is diastolic pressure, it shows the pressure is inside the blood vessels when the heart is at rest and is considered high if it is over 90.

Pre-hypertention is a state when your systolic blood pressure is between 120 and 139 or your diastolic blood pressure is between 80 and 89 on the multiple readings. If you have pre-hypertension, then there are more chances that you will catch high blood pressure.

There can be different symptoms of blood pressure, at some stage there can be no symptoms, while on the other hand there are symptoms that are:

    Chest pain

    Confusion

    Ear noise or buzzing

    Irregular heartbeat

    Nosebleed

    Tiredness

    Vision changes

During the case of very high blood pressure you might feel severe headache, this state is known as malignant hypertension. If such situation arises consult your doctor. Persistent hypertension can be the reason of one of the risk factors for strokes, heart attacks, heart failure and arterial aneurysms, and it can also be the leading cause of chronic renal failure. Even the moderate elevation of arterial pressure results in shortened life expectancy.
