What caused the Florida sinkhole?

     The Florida sinkhole that killed Jeff Bush as he slept occured as most other sinkholes do. It was the result of acidic rainwater seaping through the surface soil and penetrating the bedrock underneath his room. Over time as this rainwater ate away at said bedrock it weakened it, causing it to collapse underneath the weight of the above soil and Mr. Bush's room.


    Florida and a few other states are suceptible to such occurances. In fact, according to this well written piece from the Guardian UK, insurance companies and builders that operate in such states must factor such events into their business.
