Siesta is a short nap taken in the early afternoon, often after the midday meal. Such a period of sleep is a common tradition in some countries, particularly those where the weather is warm.

The siesta is the traditional daytime sleep of Spain, and through Spanish influence, of many Latin American countries. Brazil, colonized not by Spain but by Portugal, stands in cultural contrast.

Afternoon sleep is also a common habit in the Philippines, China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, Southern Italy, Greece, Croatia, Malta, the Middle East and North Africa.

Spain is a commom country to have siesta's, if you were to go on holiday in spain you would see that in the after noons the shops are closed and no one would be around, maybe a few people but very rarely. Spanish people love their afternoon nap. it's so when they wake up they have enough energy for the evening 'shift'
